Neway's ultrasonic testing (UT) services cannot be described as complying with one blanket list of international standards without current, job-specific evidence. Compliance must be established for each inspection through the exact standard and revision, applicable scope, material or product form, written procedure, acceptance criteria, personnel qualification, equipment verification, and report. Depending on the part, relevant documents may include ISO 17640, ISO 23279, ASTM E317, ASTM E587, AMS 2630, ASTM E2375, ASME BPVC Section V, ISO 9712, or a customer specification. Buyers should request the applicable records before award.
A quality management system can control documents, equipment, training, suppliers, nonconformance, and corrective action, but it does not qualify a specific ultrasonic technique or acceptance threshold.
ISO 9001 is a management-system standard, not a UT examination procedure. A valid certificate may support process control for a Precision Machining Service provider, but the certificate scope, site, issuing body, and validity dates must cover the quoted activity. ISO 9001 does not prescribe beam angles, probe frequency, reference reflectors, scan coverage, indication evaluation, or part acceptance. A supplier citing only ISO 9001 should still provide the controlled UT procedure, technical standard, personnel route, acceptance document, and sample report required by the purchase order.
Technical standards serve different functions. The contract must distinguish method principles, equipment-system checks, examination technique, discontinuity characterization, product acceptance, and reporting.
ISO 17640 addresses manual ultrasonic testing of fusion-welded joints, including techniques, testing levels, and assessment concepts within its stated scope. It is not a general acceptance standard for every machined billet, forging, casting, ceramic, or plastic part. ISO 23279 addresses characterization of discontinuities in welds. These documents may apply when welded features accompany Stainless Steel CNC Machining or Carbon Steel CNC Machining work. The buyer must identify the weld type, parent material, thickness, testing level, evaluation route, and separate acceptance standard rather than citing either number without scope.
ASTM E317 evaluates performance characteristics of pulse-echo ultrasonic instruments and systems. A satisfactory system check does not prove defect coverage or decide whether a part passes. ASTM E587 addresses angle-beam contact examination technique and may support an angled sound path where geometry and expected flaw orientation require it. A complex feature from a Multi-Axis Machining Service still needs a documented scan plan, reference standard, transfer correction where applicable, coverage demonstration, reporting level, and product acceptance rule. The request for quotation (RFQ) should assign each document to its actual function.
Industry programs add product, customer, regulatory, or accreditation conditions. An inspection can follow a sound UT technique and still be unacceptable if the required sector approval or customer specification is missing.
For the Aerospace and Aviation Industries, requirements may reference a prime-customer specification, material specification, Nadcap accreditation scope, AMS 2630 ultrasonic inspection requirements, or ASTM E2375 for wrought products within its scope. Nadcap is an accreditation program, not a substitute for the drawing, material standard, written procedure, or acceptance class. Request the current accreditation certificate and scope, facility identity, approved procedure number and revision, technician authorization, material and product coverage, reference blocks, acceptance class, and report format. If any item is contractually required, a marketing statement cannot replace the document.
For Power Generation and Oil and Gas work, ASME BPVC Section V can define examination methods, while the construction code, referencing section, drawing, or purchaser specification defines acceptance. ASME Section V Article 4 addresses ultrasonic examination methods for welds within its code context; ASME Section VIII applies only when the pressure-vessel construction scope and edition are contractually invoked. Inconel 718 or Titanium CNC Machining material names do not select the code. Buyers should document the governing construction rule, examination article, acceptance paragraph, edition, and any project supplement.
Personnel evidence must match the UT method, industrial sector, certification level, employer authorization, and task being performed. A generic NDT card or expired certificate is insufficient.
ISO 9712 defines qualification and certification requirements for non-destructive testing personnel. Verify the certificate number, method, sector, level, validity, certification body, and any employer authorization needed to perform or approve the work. ISO 9712 certification is not interchangeable with an employer-based program such as ASNT SNT-TC-1A when the contract names a specific route. Personnel qualification also does not replace a qualified procedure, applicable reference blocks, equipment checks, scan coverage, or customer acceptance criteria. The person acquiring data may have different authority from the person interpreting and signing the report.
A defensible compliance package connects the purchase-order requirement to the procedure, operator, equipment, reference standard, indication evaluation, acceptance decision, and final report.
Calibration Traceability: Request instrument, probe, wedge, cable, reference-block, and verification records with identifiers, applicable ranges, due dates, and traceability appropriate to the invoked procedure. A calibration label alone does not prove the complete system was checked at the required sensitivity.
Procedure Qualification: The written procedure should identify material, product form, thickness, geometry, surface state, expected flaw, scan coverage, sensitivity, reporting level, acceptance source, and limitations for work ranging from Aluminum CNC Machining to Plastic CNC Machining. One generic procedure cannot qualify acoustically different products without supporting validation.
Third-Party Audits: A certificate, customer approval, or accreditation is relevant only when it is current and covers the quoted facility, process, method, personnel route, and sector. Confirm the issuing organization and scope directly when the requirement is safety- or contract-critical.
Before production release, ask Neway or any supplier for the exact standard and revision, certificate scope, procedure number, personnel evidence, equipment and reference-block records, acceptance source, excluded zones, and a representative report. Compare those documents with the drawing and purchase order. The correct compliance statement is then limited to that verified scope. Without current evidence, the page title, a standards list, or a general ISO/ASTM/ASME claim cannot establish that a specific ultrasonic inspection will be accepted.
