For aerospace, medical devices, and other controlled products, the first release should be sized by what it must prove. A fit-check sample, destructive test set, finish coupon run, process-development lot, and formal first article require different quantities. Materials such as Titanium Ti-6Al-4V, Inconel 625, and Aluminum 7075-T6 also need exact grade, condition, stock, certificate, and delivered-state requirements. Define specimens consumed by testing, spares for setup or rejection, assembly coverage, and the decision that follows acceptance. Then ask the supplier for the smallest quoted release that can produce valid evidence.
A validated first release does not automatically define the next MOQ or unit price. low-volume CNC machining may replace temporary jaws, manual settings, extended first-piece checks, or prototype finishing with repeatable controls. Require the response to state accepted order quantity, stock and outside-process minimums, setup or engineering charges, parts consumed by qualification, overrun or scrap policy, lead-time assumptions, and repeat-order validity.
