Slug 1: cnc-turning-of-custom-316l-fasteners-for-automation Slug 2: precision-machining-and-surface-treatment-of-non-standard-fasteners
Custom fasteners in automation systems must deliver repeatable mechanical integrity under dynamic loads, thermal changes, and vibration. These non-standard components often feature specific geometries, thread designs, or head shapes tailored to unique system constraints. At Neway, we manufacture custom fasteners from 316L stainless steel using CNC turning technology optimized for automation equipment applications.
By integrating advanced surface treatments—passivation and PVD coating—we provide high-performance fastening solutions that exceed industrial durability and cleanliness standards.
316L stainless steel offers excellent resistance to corrosion, even in the presence of industrial fluids and wash-down environments. Its low carbon content prevents sensitization, and the alloy meets ISO 3506 and ASTM F138 standards for mechanical fasteners in corrosive and cleanroom settings.
Despite being more difficult to cut than 304, 316L can be precisely machined using sharp carbide tools and optimized speeds. Our turning centers produce accurate thread forms (UNC/UNF, metric, or special) with pitch diameters held within ±0.02 mm and surface finish Ra ≤ 1.6 µm for thread flanks.
Custom fasteners are CNC turned from bar stock, with diameters ranging from M3 to M20 or larger. External threading and shoulder definition are executed in one cycle to maintain alignment between threads and drive surfaces. Hex heads, slots, or torx features are added using synchronized turning and milling cycles.
Thread tips, undercuts, and shoulders are deburred to prevent galling or damage during automated assembly. Tapered lead-ins are applied to threads for improved engagement in blind holes or high-speed feed systems.
Passivation to ASTM A967 standards removes surface iron and enhances corrosion resistance. Our in-house passivation process ensures Class 1000 cleanroom compatibility and prepares the surface for further coatings.
To improve wear performance and facilitate visual identification, we apply TiN, TiCN, or ZrN coatings via PVD technology. This increases surface hardness to 1800–2500 HV and reduces friction in automated tightening or release operations.
