Records prove stable jig boring across a large lot when they connect drawing revision, material, support, datum transfer, tool and program state, measurements, setup changes, affected units, reactions, and final release. A capability statement or one first-piece report cannot show that a long plate remained supported and aligned through every change. Buyers should require a chronological, lot-linked record chain with original and repeated results visible.
Each traveler, setup sheet, inspection report, certificate, deviation, and shipment record should identify part number, drawing and model revision, work order, unit or lot, material designation and heat, and process date. Link the end-hole pattern and plate identity to the same record. A correct result on a superseded revision is not evidence for the current part.
Keep status history rather than overwriting a traveler. If a record is corrected, preserve original value, reason, owner, date, and affected range. This allows the buyer to distinguish a remeasurement from an edited failure.
Capture fixture, pad, locator, clamp, support spacing, contact order, orientation, restraint, temperature, and seating verification. Record the datum frame and witness features used after a flip or machine move. A support map is evidence of setup intent; the transfer result is evidence that the functional relationship survived.
Record chips, burrs, coolant, coating, and any damaged contact that could affect seating. If a pad or locator changes, identify effective time and affected units. Do not treat a machine coordinate or nominal support grid as product proof.
Record machine, holder, tool or insert, program, coolant, pass sequence, tool projection, and signals that matter to diameter, position, or deflection. Include first-piece approval, tool change, fixture change, support adjustment, chatter, collision, and chip events. Bound the affected range by serial, lot, time, setup, or material heat.
A later passing measurement does not prove earlier units were unaffected. Preserve the original event and the reaction. If the event cannot be bounded, contain the larger plausible range and expand inspection.
For holes, state diameter depths, angular sections, position frame, perpendicularity, counterbore, flatness, twist, temperature, support, instrument, calibration, units, and sampling. For functional checks, identify hardware, load, temperature, lubrication, and assembly state. For inaccessible regions, identify the alternate method and its limitation. A CMM report, pin fit, or surface check proves only its defined characteristic and state.
Retain raw coordinates, traces, photographs, or machine files when required by the acceptance plan. A photograph can document seating or visible damage but cannot prove material, tolerance, or capacity. Link every file to unit and revision.
Change notices should cover drawing, model, material, heat treatment, machine, fixture, support, locator, clamp, tool, holder, program, coolant, inspection, cleaning, processor, and packaging. State temporary or permanent status, effective date, affected units, validation, owner, and restart approval. Specify which CTQs are repeated after each class of change.
Deviation records should identify requirement, actual condition, risk boundary, duration, approver, and additional inspection. If re-boring or rework is proposed, state remaining stock, datum, edge distance, and pattern checks. Preserve the nonconformance and rework result together.
Heat treatment, coating, welding, cleaning, assembly, and packaging can alter plate form or hole seating. Link processor, specification, batch, masking, before-and-after checks, and delivered state. A certificate supports a processor claim within scope; it does not replace final geometry or functional evidence.
Record receipt condition, damage, residue, fixture marks, and re-cleaning. If the part is accepted bolted to a frame, preserve hardware, torque, support, and temperature. Chronology matters because the buyer must know which state existed at each decision.
Provide an index from drawing to traveler, setup, support verification, transfer check, process events, inspection, certificates, deviations, changes, and shipment. Identify missing and not-applicable records deliberately. Protect raw data from silent edits and retain access or correction history. A redacted example can show format but is not evidence for the current lot.
When a reviewer asks why the lot was released, the answer should be reconstructible from identifiers, states, results, reactions, and approvals. Do not backdate a record or remove an unfavorable observation. Stable production evidence is chronological as well as numerical.
Provide identity, revision, support, datum, process, measurement, change, deviation, retention, access, and approval requirements. Ask suppliers to show how support or tool changes link to unit ranges and repeated checks. Request a redacted correction history and sample inspection package. Compare evidence usability and traceability, not document count.
Approve release when every lot decision has a named record, state, identifier, owner, and reaction, and when support and change history remain visible. Hold for unlinked reports, overwritten values, unknown affected ranges, or generic machine claims. A stable large-part jig-boring lot is demonstrated by traceable evidence across setups, not by one attractive first piece.
